Hosted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), ROBOFEST is the esteemed annual robotics competition that originated from the vision and dedication of the Electrical Engineering Department. Since its inception in 2010, ROBOFEST has served as a premier platform for school students, undergraduates, and robotics enthusiasts across the country to showcase their engineering skills and innovative ideas.
This year marks a significant milestone as the Mechanical Engineering Department takes charge, promising an event filled with new challenges and robotics technology. ROBOFEST 2024 aims to expand the horizons of participants with novel competition categories, interactive workshops, and sessions designed to deepen their engagement with the field of robotics.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, which led to the cancellation of ROBOFEST 2020, our commitment to the spirit of robotics and innovation remained unwavering. In 2021, ROBOFEST adapted to the new normal by transitioning to a hybrid format, minimizing in-person contact and introducing participants to the novel realm of virtual robotic simulation. This adaptability ensured that the essence of ROBOFEST continued, even under unprecedented circumstances.
Following a successful return to its physical format in 2022 and 2023, ROBOFEST is now poised to embark on an exciting new chapter. For the first time, the Mechanical Engineering Department will steer the direction of ROBOFEST 2024, promising an event brimming with innovation, excitement, and new opportunities. This transition signifies our ongoing dedication to enriching the robotics community, providing an innovative platform for emerging engineers, thinkers, and leaders in the field.
